Ohio: the numbers that matter

Sealing / expungement — petition-based

Petition-based; SB 56 (2025) added a marijuana-possession expungement path

Verified July 23, 2026

Ohio is petition-based for sealing and expungement — there is no automatic Clean Slate. SB 56 (2025) created a new expungement path for certain prior marijuana/hashish possession offenses (≤15 g hashish specified); if granted, the offense is treated as never having occurred and is unusable in record checks. Ohio has no unified statewide public portal — records are county-by-county — so you look up your own case at the county clerk of courts.
